Local Heroes Honored

Volunteers, donors and community partners were once again honored during the Folsom Cordova Community Partnership’s fifth annual Heroes Joining Hands event held mid last month. Hosted once again by the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova, the evening featured an elegant recognition dinner along with the numerous awards, all with a superhero theme. Organizers estimated more than 250 attended the event that honors individuals and groups involved with the Partnership. Among those in attendance were volunteers, donors, community members, program participants, Partnership’s board of directors, staff members, and local dignitaries including Rancho Cordova Mayor Robert McGarvey, Rancho Cordova City Council member Dan Skoglund and County Board of Supervisor Don Nottoli.
Founded in 1992 as the Folsom Cordova Schools Foundation, The Partnership is a nonprofit organization that provides a variety of services to in-need children and families in Rancho Cordova and Folsom. Last month's Heroes Joining Hands award ceremony began with a slide show highlighting the Partnership’s work during the past year. The slideshow was followed by the award presentation. Awards presented included:
*Mighty Mentor Award: Presented to John Hall and Tina Faulks for exceeding the Roots and Horizon’s expectations in their commitment to making a difference in the lives of their mentees over this past two years.
*Boy Wonder Award: Presented to Richard Mendoza
*Wonder Girl Award: Presented to Ana Nunez
Both awards were given in recognition of the duo’s abilities in leadership and dedication to volunteerism.
*Caped Collaborators Award: Presented to the Sacramento Sirens female football team in recognition of being a collaborative organization that provided incomparable support to the Partnership
*Sanctuary of Success Award: Presented to Ashot Nahapetyan and Kristine Avetisyan, who were honored as outstanding parent leaders, advocates and dedicated volunteers.
*Herald of Hope Award: Presented to Barbara Aberasturi who was honored as the Partnership’s “most spectacular volunteer.”

*Captain AmeriCorps Award: Presented to the Partnership’s Cailen Woodward who is an AmeriCorps Member.
*Steward of Strength Award: Presented to Fred Chavez for being a board member who truly understands and embraces his role and consistently utilizes his knowledge, skills, and abilities to benefit the community.
*Corporate Crusader Award: Presented to Vision Service Plan for providing superior support to the community and furthering the mission of the Partnership.
*Superhero of the Year Award: This final award of the evening each year goes to “an individual or organization that has stood out as [The Partnership’s] greatest supporter throughout the year.” This year’s Superhero of the Year Award went to Daniel McCaffery and Folsom Lake Bank.
