Creating a SafetyNet for our families

Our Safety-Net services program focuses on meeting the basic needs of our clients while acting as the “Gateway” to our other programs and services. This is a very powerful way to reach populations who would normally “fall through the cracks” of a traditional insular social services delivery system.

Recently, a community partner referred a family of five to The Partnership’s Saftey Net Services program. The family had fallen on hard times, and was homeless. As a result of being without a stable shelter, the children had often missed school and were disenrolled. The Partnership was able to support the family with temporary housing at a local motel and encouraged the family to re-enroll the children so that they could finish out the remainder of the school year in their home schools. A few days later, the family came in to share their gratitude and excitement. The children shared how happy they were to be back in school with their friends and teachers. The mother shared that she had an appointment to meet with a housing specialist and had also applied for cash aid to assist in the interim. Thanks to the Safety Net Services Program and a Community Partner's referral, this family is on their way to finding a new place to call home.
