Father and daughter reading a book at PlaygroupThe Folsom Cordova Community Partnership celebrates and supports parents all year long. In the month of June, we honor Fathers. Father's Day is an opportunity to recognize and thank our dads for their commitment to their families and community. Men who play an active role in their children’s lives stimulate all aspects of development: emotional, academic, behavioral, and social.
We would like to especially recognize the fathers who actively participate in Partnership programs throughout the year, including the parent education classes offered through our Family Resource Center. These men take time out of their busy schedules to learn how to be a better parent. Your dedication to your children and family is commended. We would also like to recognize men who volunteer time to mentor a child. Mentoring provides the opportunity to create a positive relationship with the child when the father figure is absent from a home.
Father's Support Group at the Family Resource Center last year. This Father’s Day, we remember the father’s role. Let us actively engage him in this day-to-day process of parenting. Let us see his parenting role as a positive one in his child’s life. Let us celebrate our fathers and honor them for making a difference in our world.
Here is a great activity your family can do to recognize fathers this Father’s Day.
PUT YOUR HAND IN MINE
Comparing handprints is a lifelong lesson. Trace Dad's hand on a piece of paper, then have your child place his or her hand inside the tracing of Dad's hand and help your child trace around it. Your child can color his hand in and/or decorate the page. The tracing makes a great Father's Day card! When your youngster gives this gift to Dad, ask him or her to compare the sizes of the two sets of hands. Dad can tell his child a story about something he liked to do when his hands were small and his child can share what he or she would like to do when his or her hands are as big as Dad’s hands. As an extended activity, Dad and his child can take a walk together holding hands.
